Background Information Thanksgiving Day Thanksgiving Day is a harvest festival. Traditionally, it is a time to give thanks for th

17、e harvest and express gratitude in general. It is a holiday celebrated primarily in Canada and the United States.The most accepted origin is like this: In Sep.1620, some pilgrims couldnt tolerate the rules of the church in England. So they sailed to Holland . Its better, but they were not satisfied.

18、 To seek religious freedom, they begun the journey to America by the ship Mayflower. After 65 days, they set ground at Plymouth Rock on Dec.11,1620. Its winter then. But there was not enough food and its very cold,and they didnt adapted to the environment. After the harsh winter, only 56 survived. T

19、he next year, with the help of the native Indians, they have a nice harvest. Then they decided to celebrate with a feast. It lasted for 3 days. The chosen turkey will be sent to a farm and live the rest of its life there. I think thats a way to express thank

22、s to the nature. There are also a lot of TV specials on Thanksgiving Day. Most family will sit together to enjoy a soccer match. And there will be parades around America to celebrate Thanksgiving Day. The most famous one is the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York. And the most famous thing dur

23、ing the parade is the balloon. Huge different balloon! Were familiar with some balloons. Such as Spoopys master Charlie, Hello Kitty, uncle McDonald, Snoopy, and Shrek. Black FridayThe day after Thanksgiving Day is the Black Friday! Why we call it Black Friday? Because its the beginning of the crazy

24、 shopping month between Thanksgiving and Christmas. On this day almost all stores are on HUGE sales. Many people buy Christmas gifts for their friends and families. You have to wake up really early and fight off people to get really good deals on all the stuff you want to buy. Christmas (4 songs) We

34、而不是和几个住在破旧农场里的亲戚。这句话中had intended是过去完成体的想象性用法，表示与过去事实相反的主观设想。除了动词intend可以以过去完成体出现表示过去未曾实现的希望、打算或意图外，还有hope, expect, think, mean ( = intend), want, suppose等动词。如：1) I had expected you to come earlier to help me. 我本来指望你早点来给我帮忙的。2) I had hoped to see him before I left, but he couldnt come. 我本来希望走之前见他一面的

Thats why we brough one with us: That is the reason for our bringing a turkey with us. 这就是我带来一只火鸡的原因。Thats why: here the “why” part is a predicative clause to denote the reason （这就是.的原因）e.g. 1) That is why she refused to tell you the news. She was afraid it was too much for you.2) Thats wh

36、y she agreed to come with me. She didnt want to disappoint you.5. I havent seen a flaming pudding since I left England.: After I left England, I havent seen a flaming pudding ever since. Since: It can be used to introduce adverbial clause of time(自 从.以来，自从.以后），usually requiring the perfect tense in

37、the main clause. E.g. 1) I have worked in this city since I graduated from college. We havent seen each other since we left school. But in the sentence pattern “it is/was .+since”there is no need for the perfect tense. E.g. 1) It is ten years since we last met. 2) It was 20 years since he worked in

38、this company.6. Finally, mom came out with a flaming Christmas pudding, which was a big surprise. Before that moment, no one remembered that a dessert would be served.我们都快忘了甜点，直到妈妈端出了最后的惊喜一个火焰圣诞布丁。这句话中包含了until引导的时间状语从句。until在这里的意思相当于before，意思是“在以前”。until既可作为连词引导时间状语从句，也可作为介词，引导时间状语。主句有两种情况。 主句为肯定句：

39、这时主句动词表示的动作持续到until状语（从句）表示的时间为止，而且不再继续下去。until通常译为“在之前，一直到时候”。如： 1) You can get free medical care until you are 18. 2) The fairies danced until dawn.主句为否定句： 这时主句动词表示的动作在until时间状语（从句）表示的时间以后开始，notuntil通常译为“直到才”。如：1) He didnt come back until midnight.2) Women didnt gain the vote until the First World

40、 War was over.请注意第二种情况下的几种句型转换。倒装句： 倒装时需要把否定词not和until一起置于句首。如：Not until the First World War was over did women gain the vote.这时需要把not和until一起置于被强调的位置。如：It was not until the First World War was over that women gained the vote.7.
